From the sound of it, AutoSave wasn’t active in your settings, which is why your changes didn’t get saved. If you want autosaving going forward, go to Tools - Options - Load/Save - General and enable “Save AutoRecovery information every X minutes”.
Since you’ve already checked backup and temp folders, you’ve covered most of the basics. Another thing you can still try: if File History was enabled in Windows, right-click the file or the folder it was in, go to Properties > Previous Versions, and see if anything shows up. Maybe Windows saved versions you can restore from.
And if there’s a chance the file was actually deleted, your best bet is to use a data recovery tool like Disk Drill, R-Studio, or Recoverit to scan the same drive. Just be sure to recover to a different location so you don’t accidentally overwrite anything.
