vetnurse64 We’ve already got a pretty detailed guide on this issue (check out How to Recover Deleted Files after Windows Update), it goes over all the usual causes and fixes.
Here are a few of the common ones:
Sometimes after an update, Windows logs you into a temporary profile, and it looks like everything’s gone. You’ll see a message like “You’ve been signed in with a temporary profile.” If so, don’t save anything, you’ll lose it when you log out.
Major updates sometimes move your files to the C:\Windows.old folder. That’s where your old user data goes so you can roll back.
If you use OneDrive, the update might’ve messed with your sync settings, or signed you out. That can make files look “missing” even though they’re safe online.
If your user profile got damaged during the update, you might not be able to access your old files at all.
I won’t go over everything here, but I’d definitely recommend checking out the full guide. it’s pretty detailed and walks through each cause step by step.
